The goal of this letter is to gain the attention of Congress. The letter will accompany bound copies of the report: The Carbon Clock is Ticking: Children Will Live the Future that Burning Fossil Fuels is Setting on Fire.

A dynamic reality check on the existential apparatus the fossil fuel industry has been building on a planetary scale since the 1980s. ExxonMobil, Chevron, BP, Shell, and API have known the consequences of burning fossil fuels for more than forty years, but these Big Oil companies continue to burn the future that children and young people will be forced to live.

My hope is that the book will not only provide support for the scientists who are providing the evidence of human impact on the planet. I also hope the book shines a spotlight on the extraordinary efforts of the civil society Major Groups and other Stakeholders (MGoS) who participate in the yearly UN HLPFs

Energy is being released that has historically been repressed. Young people are rising and the U.N. is supporting their call for global action. Across all sectors there is a conscious commitment to include the participation of youth in addressing global challenges, transforming boundaries, and embracing equity in global solutions.

The contrast between the hyper-preparations to repel asteroids that might collide with Earth more than 100 years hence, and the dangerous absurdity of denying the existential risks that we face now, is illustrated by the plight of the African elephant. The largest remaining land mammal on the planet is facing a crisis in survival due to climate change, the ecological destruction of habitats, and mass killings.
